Mowasalat has launched a Karwa taxi app, which is free to download for both IOS and Android devices.

You can request a ride with a single click and get picked up by the nearest taxi in the shortest period. Make a booking for future or for immediate pickup.

You can rate your trips, including driver, vehicle, and overall service. Each service provider’s performance is linked to trips ratings.

Currently they are operating around 4,000 taxis with 4 franchise operators - Al Million Trading, Alijarah Holding, Profit trading & Ibnajayan - and have plans to go up tp 7,000 taxis.

They have given taxi license to four more operators to increase growth in taxi fleet & services.

"I have to thank the team Karwa Solutions, in accomplishing this landmark service with the cooperation and collaboration of Mowasalat’s Karwa taxi operations, Karwa Taxi Management office and our four franchise taxi operators," CEO Mowasalat, Khalid Al Hail, said.  [The Peninsula]

the problem i faced is that, if you are not sure of your current location or map as per the app is not correct, taxi will have tough time finding you.

No charges for booking initially through APP, it will be shown in the meter in the Taxi

yes, normal taxi fare ( might have increased after petrol hike ) plus the 5 QR booking charge. ( if you need to go to Airport the charge will be QR 8 plus normal charge ) , Though we pay extra 5 or 8 it is much better than hiring Private or a limosine

And herein lies the issue - most people will now complain about the 5QR bookin charge ...

For those who actually care about using it - its not bad at all. I've used it a few times and always had a Karwa coming with 5 or 10 minutes. The good thing is that they can't mess around with the meter, since it is recorded by their management who came to fetch you - this alone makes it worth using...

perhaps i will try it one of these days. but i hope they will develop an app that will force the drivers to use their meters properly first. these days with their flashy new 'tamper-proof' meters with gps they simply log out of the system. no need to even use a water bottle or break the meter to hide the fare
