Some tips for long distance driving
Driving long distances to neighbouring countries is quite common in Qatar. When a long weekend approaches, we would find many of us packing to go on a long road trip.
What with the fuel prices being digestible, long road trips seem to be a feasible and even a cheaper way of travelling to many.
However, long distance driving can be pretty exhausting. Here are some tips that we think are important for anyone planning to drive on a long road trip.
#- Get a good night sleep before you start your journey. Also, make sure you eat something before you hit the road.
#- If you are driving a rented out vehicle, familiarize with the car and all of its equipment (horn, brakes, hazard lights etc)
#- Taking your own vehicle? Check the tyres, the fuel tank etc. and make sure your vehicle is in prime condition.
#- Take small breaks when driving. Pull over, get out of your car, stretch a bit, click a few pictures and then continue again.
#- Take turns when driving with a friend or so. This way, you could keep an eye on one another’s driving and even catch a wink or two when tired without losing time.
#- Driving alone? Make sure you have a good collection of music to listen to!
#- Check whether your GPS unit is in order and to be on the safe side, bring along a map too.
#- Get to know about the road rules of the state you’re travelling to beforehand.
#- Entering a neighbouring country? Make sure all your papers are in order!
