A Doha Criminal Court has been reviewing the case of two Syrian expatriate men accused of taking bribes to facilitate some transaction at government offices.

According to Gulf Times, the local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday that the first defendant used to work as a survey engineer at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.

He is accused of accepting bribes of a sum of QR1.1mn in exchange for speeding up the process of land allocations for the applicants, who paid him.

The second defendant is accused of acting as an intermediary between the first defendant and his clients, where he used to facilitate communication and agree on the required sum of the bribe.

The Public Prosecution received a complaint that these two persons had been doing such illegal transactions and the first defendant was abusing the duties of public job.

Accordingly, all the legal procedures were taken to put them under surveillance and monitor all their actions closely, including the recording of all their phone communications.

Eventually, investigations proved the doubts, leading to the arrest of the two persons.

Upon searching their accommodations, some documents were found affirming the charges against them.

Besides, the officer in charge testified that both the defendants admitted their guilt during police interrogation. The case is still going on at the court.
