He has been working in Qatar and plan to get another offer with transfer visa. I am wondering how come he cannot justify the expenses and decide whether accept the offer or not.

Brit : You hit the nail on the head, not rental purchased, I have heard how much a single scratch will cost you on a rental car, plus as my company don't pay into a pension for me when I do leave Qatar I will have a decent car to sell and money to go home with. My apartment is only a 1 bedroom studio and its not in either The Pearl or West Bay, Its in Duhail close to Ikea, yes it is in a compound and I have the use of a Gym and a Pool, internet and electric paid along with parking and maintenance, but seriously its nothing over the top, how do you people find accommodation like this for 2,000 per month ?

Deeleerious: Perhaps he has bought a new car on monthly installments

You'll be fine on 23,000 a month. That's a decent salary.

Agree on the car costs 7000 a month!. Come on what land yacht are you in?

Vinod, it is very good salary. Grab it.

For an Asian with simple life, figures provided by Britexpat is more than sufficient.

Omar, That's reliable figures given by you, for a new comer to refer with ........

Room rate can be brought to half by keeping a like minded sweet person with you , food bill come down to max 250 { breakfasts only } if you have many friends & often visit them. .............. Car rental = Zero, Take lift from a kind soul from your colleagues ...... you can save almost all your salary by Smart Living ............

7000 per month for a car? what the hell are you driving?. Rent is only 2000. Apartment I'm not sure since it's paid for for myself. Petrol 2000? I spend 400. Guess it depends on where you live and how much you have to travel. 3000 other expenses? You are living a rolls royce life mate.

Brit : I fully understand your comments, all I am saying is those figures are actual, may be a little higher than some people would spend but this is a true reflection on the costs for an expat living in a compound ( not a labor camp ). My figure is 20,500 per month against your figure of 6,200, so lets split the difference and say 14,000 per month is the average for a comfortable life in Qatar. If people budgeted on this figure and then found living here is cheaper than that it is only a good thing. What would be wrong is if people budget 6,000 and then when they arrive they find in reality it would cost them 14,000.

Cream Tease: In the past I have used figures set out by Qatar Livig, but I was accused of Western bias and over exagerating .... So, I went with what many others have recently come up with

Brit : You must live a very basic life on those figures, I am a single guy here with no family and I pay 7,000 per month for my car, 7,500 per month for my apartment, 2,000 per month food, 1,000 per month petrol and around 3,000 per month on other expenses, I live a simple but enjoyable life and I could not survive here on your top estimate of 6,200 per month.

It is all subjective, since we all have differing needs - However, on average -

Room from 1500 to 3500 per month

Car rental - 1500 - 2000 per month

Food / groceries - 1200 per month

Phone / internet - 500 per month
