1.96kg gold coins seized from Qatar Airways flight in Amritsar
The customs department recovered 246 gold coins of 22 carat purity, valued at QR314,000, from a toilet of a Doha-Amritsar flight at the Sree Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar, Punjab.
“Two packets were found hidden inside the rear toilet of the flight that landed from Doha on Wednesday. When the packets were opened, gold coins were found inside,” said Customs commissioner Captain Sanjay Gahlot.
Sources said the consignment, wrapped in a plastic cover, was deliberately left in the aircraft’s toilet only to be retrieved by “someone having easy access at the arrival point of the aircraft.”
A case under the Customs Act-1962 has been registered and officials have initiated a detailed probe, said Gahlot.
Customs officials have in the past too made gold seizures at the airport. According to officials, the gold had either been found abandoned in the aircraft or were recovered from passengers coming to Amritsar from Dubai or Doha.

Seemingly no end to the lengths people will go to... obviously an inside job, all these gold shipments, in cahoots with airside ground staff...
The more the Indian government taxes gold, the more gold will be smuggled into their country.
Well done to the authorities .... Isn't this becaoming a little too common ?
