Indian Embassy receives 1,789 labour complaints this year
The Indian embassy has received 1,789 labour complaints since January this year, The Peninsula reported quoting an official statement.
The number of complaints received last year was 4,132.
The statement followed the monthly Open House the embassy holds to address urgent consular and labour-related problems of its nationals.
Ambassador Sanjiv Arora, Deputy Chief of Mission R K Singh and other officials met complainants and discussed their problems.
Arvind Patil, President, Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), which works under the aegis of the embassy for the welfare of workers, was also present.
A total of 32 Indians are at the deportation centre and 154 in the central prison and an embassy team visited the facilities to enquire about their welfare.
The embassy registered 119 deaths in May.
Following requests from Qatari authorities for travel documents for inmates at the deportation centre, the embassy issued 38 emergency certificates in May and 12 air tickets to Indians in distress to return home. ICBF provided five air tickets to those who could not afford travel expenses to facilitate their deportation. It also supports workers with financial and medical assistance.

1,789 from the Indian Embassy, I wonder just how many from the Philipino Embassy, I know for sure POLO is bursting at the seems.
nijesh: Sadly , you are correct.. most of the Embassies here, especially from the developing nations are more concerned in developing business contracts than worrying about their citizens..
Their aim is not to rock the boat, because foreign remittances are important to their economies..
britexpat..Well I agree with you, but I have not mentioned that he is going to take care of this situation. He is the one who has killed Pravasi community in Gulf, where one could have express their issues and find a proper solution. Embassies are never meant to solve their own peoples issue, they are just a spectator.
nijesh: Be realistic.. The prime reason for Mr Modi's visit is to sign trade deals and get agreement to send more Indian workers here - because he needs the money they send back into the economy..
I believe Mr. Narendra Modi is coming to Qatar on 1st week of June, lets see what plans he has. Still it is not mentioned on what basis the complaints are registered and how it is being dealt with Qatari officials.

MM: I realise you like to comment in a hurry , but at least read the article properly
