Qatar Development Fund donates $5m to aid Syrian refugees
Qatar Development Fund (QDF) last week signed a $5m agreement with Turkey's Humanitarian Pooled Fund (HPF).
The agreement was signed by QDF General Director Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari and the United Nations' Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Stephen O'Brien.
Al Kuwari said the signing of the agreement to support HPF stressed the State of Qatar and QDF's keenness to support the Syrian people through humanitarian and development assistance programs.
He stressed about Qatar’s long term support for Syrian refugees in times of crisis. QDF continues to back thousands of them through financing humanitarian operations and providing assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis in Syria.
For his part, O'Brien called on the international community to follow the steps made by the State of Qatar and provide assistance for humanitarian operations in Syria, pointing out that such contributions could save the Syrians' lives in particular women and children.
