Keeping positive in the heat
Oh my goodness, it is hot!!! I always forget how hot Qatar’s summers are until they return… and we are just getting started.
Anyone can tell you the heat can wear on you. People usually use their vacation time to escape during Doha’s summer months. The weather is harsh - we are, after all, in a desert.
There is tons going on all over the country, but man, the weather makes you lazy and lethargic. Honestly, most people aren’t looking to run around town in 50 degree celsius heat.
So, what do you do then?
So if travelling for two months isn’t an option, and complaining most certainly won’t get you any results, you have to make the most of it.
A tiny break will make a difference. Strangely even going to Dubai (which is still hot) for the weekend can make a difference. Just change your environment. There is tons of heat, traffic, and all of your responsibilities in Doha - take a two day break and check out the aquarium or something we don’t have in Doha for the weekend, that little break can transform you into a happy camper.
You can even do a staycation here. Saves you on the airfare and local hotels offer massive discounts during the summer months. Again, change your environment, live a little footloose so you can regain some positive energy.
Finally, and the ladies can swear by this one, visit one of the spas here. There are tons of spas in Qatar at all different price points. So if you need a massage, facial, or whatever… it will be nice to enjoy a bit of pampering.
You can also hit the gym, that helps with the summer blues, you just need that initial push to get out the door.
A colleague mentioned that during the summer they, and a group of friends, play late night soccer.
Regardless, do something different. It will help and you’ll enjoy the next three months of your life much much more.
Very cool tips :) time to make plans!
I usually get my bermudas on.. Put on a fedora and saunter over to Rizks' Emporium.. During the summer, he has one section designed as a Spanish resort, complete with sand on the floor and sun loungers..
I order a tall cool glass of iced Karak, served by a beauty in shorts and pretend that I'm anywhere but Doha :o)
