Old Ramadan cannon at Katara attracts children and families
The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara has for the first time launched ‘Medfa’ Al Iftar’ to announce the end of the fast at sunset during the Holy Month.
The cannon has attracted droves of children and families who showed interest and enthusiasm to witness the firing of shots. Katara introduced the cannon during Ramadan Festival 2016 being held under the theme ‘Quran and Creation of Man’.
Visitors of all ages stressed the importance of reviving Ramadan traditions and bringing alive themes such as ‘Medfa’ Al Iftar’, which Katara has placed at a special yard on the southern side of its beach.
Katara Mesaharati and Ramadan Cannon proved popular during the festival, with hundreds of visitors taking photos with them.
At Katara, the Spirit of Ramadan is reflected on its alleys, buildings, trees, squares, beach and hills all decorated with stylish traditional lights strung up and inspired by Ramadan themes such as crescents and fawanees.
The Katara Mosque is also drawing a large number of people who, after breaking fast, show up before Isha and Taraweeh prayers to dedicate some quality time to enjoy recitation of the Holy Quran by Imam Sheikh Mohammed Makkie.
The souq continues to welcome Ramadan shoppers with outlets offering a diverse array of products, including local and Gulf traditional dresses, oriental gifts, handmade products, Islamic art and Arabic library.
