HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani succeeded his father HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani as Qatar’s ruler in June, 2013. In a first-of-its-kind move in the region, HH Father Emir abdicated his throne for his son.
Sheikh Tamim, 36, is a younger and more dynamic face and has made several crucial decisions in the short time he has been his country’s leader.
Sheikh Tamim, who was born in Doha in 1980, is the fourth son of Sheikh Hamad.
He became the Gulf state's heir apparent in 2003 after his older brother Sheikh Jassim renounced his claim to the throne.
