Three delectable dessert dives in Doha
Coming from the land of make believe and Kim Kardashian (otherwise known as Los Angeles), I was used to being around self-professed “foodies.” It got to the point where I dared not to take a bite of my food until the person eating with me had taken an Instagram-worthy photo of our joint meal.
While I’d like to think I left this culture behind me when moving to Doha, these dessert spots have me feeling otherwise. Whether it’s my own instinct to Snapchat a decadent cake in front of me, or to use Instagram to explain what a “sweet chapati” is to my friends back home, it’s hard not to share what you’re eating when it tastes oh-so-sweet. Below I share with you three of my favourite dessert spots in Doha.
Dip N Dip
The sheer size of the Dip N Dip menu left me with (what I thought was) the onset of an anxiety attack. For someone who loves dessert as much as much as I do, how was I supposed to decide? The menu has your usual culprits in crepes, waffles and cakes, and for the more adventurous there are the the Cream Puffs Kebab, Succès cake and their signature Fettucini Crepe. If you want to try a few options in one trip, don’t bother, because these portions make finishing even one dish with two people a struggle. The solution? Come back a second time (or fifth).
W Café
You know what’s better than the desserts at the W Café? The desserts at the W Café half off. That’s right, all desserts and pasties are half off after 9pm at this spot tucked into the corner of the happening hotel. You can choose one of their delectable cupcakes along with an assortment of pastries and cakes that change regularly (my favourite is the Victoria sponge cake). If tea is more your thing, you can also check out their Afternoon Tea which comes with sandwiches, pastries and (my personal pick) scones with jam and cream. Unlike real life, there’s really no wrong choice to be made at the W Café.
Poori & Karak
As its name would suggest, Poori & Karak knows what it’s best at and sticks true to that formula (and rightly so). My choice dessert is the cheese and honey chapati. Be forewarned: your waistline may feel some regret after indulging in this sweet treat, but your heart will be oh-so-satisfied (and at 8QR per serving, so will your wallet). Additional options include the sweet chapati and the (wait for it) Nutella chocolate chapati. Whatever your pick and whatever the time of day, you won’t be disappointed as Poori & Karak is open 24 hours.
