As I'm new here in Doha, I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of Credit Card in Commercial Banks, and how to use it to avoid any problem during vacation out of Qatar.?
is there anybody who had an experience to share with me?
Credit cards are a must, especially in Qatar. It will help you pay online, hassle free, your phone, internet, electricity & water bills, Metrash2 visa, RP, Driving license fees. Etc. This comes after owning a CC for 8 years in Qatar. Especially with the much cheaper merchandise that is purchased from amazon, eBay, aliexpress etc. since the market here is very expensive.
Concerning the hidden charges that's being discussed, as long as you return the amount owned before the end of the month, you are not subject to interest. I have a Doha Bank card, set to 10% repayment, I usually return 100% of my expenditures to avoid such interest.
It's ultimately your choice, in the end, whether to get one or not. But if you don't get one, don't be that a**hole begging your colleague so buy you something online or pay you your bill. That's the major downside of it anyways, Beggars.
We are happy about it as well ......... Now walk with pride ............ Bankers cheat innocent public , they change rate of interest, they will charge you three times for the same like '' file opening charges , processing fees, service charges, handling charges '' ...... ha ha ha .......
Credit cards can take a lot of time to cancel when you want to leave qatar and work in a new country. Some banks will withhold a large sum of your money until the card is officially cancelled.
My advice is also to not get the card. If they give it to yu as part of the offer for opening the account then go and start the cancellation process immediately.
As long as you have your debit card, it is more than enough, with the credit card there are charges.
I remember CBQ, was promoting a WOW credit card a few years back, no charges, no strings, however, the problem/string was, you cannot pay back the full amount spent, only 75% and you pay interest on the balance throughout, so you were stuck in a loop.
Banks are same as any other business, that is how they make their profits.

Sorry, I do not have much idea about credit card at this moment.
I cancelled credit card from three banks in 2008. I though I should be out of credit card at least from the date my first child's birth.
How ever it's your choice. We are only suggesting.

thanks for the advises, actually, I'm not interested on this, however, the bank is convincing me to accept this offer...
NO to Credit Card ......... A snake , it will bite you for sure ......................
Credit card is the worst form of borrowing, since it carries lots of charges and fees as well as interest of more than 10%.
However it is useful if you are traveling in case of dire need.
WT is right in advising to use the "Debit Card" only.
A Debit Card would be the better choice. You can use it to pay and shop online but only to the amount that is on your account.
It has only disadvantages. You are going to spend more than you have.
