The first half of 2016 sees 3,114 road accidents, 80 casualties
A total of 3,114 traffic accidents, involving 80 casualties, were reported in the first half of 2016, according to local Arabic daily Al Sharq.
The daily cited data from the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS), which showed that the highest number of accidents - 473 - were recorded at the Madinat Khalifa Traffic Department during this period, followed by Al Mamoura at 303.
The number of traffic violations registered in the first six months amounted to 801,524. Some 141,176 of these were recorded in April, the highest for any month.
On the other hand, the number of traffic violations registered in June was the lowest during this period at 110,606, the report pointed out.
Further, MDPS statistics indicated that a total of 488,112 traffic violations were detected by radars in the first half of the year. Month-wise, February saw the highest number of cases at 96,503 and June the lowest at 65,959.
Meanwhile, 11,701 violations were recorded in the same period for jumping the red light.
The 110,606 traffic violations in June marked a 22.2% drop compared to May, as reported in Gulf Times recently.
In June, violations with relation to traffic instructions stood at 9,621, traffic signs 9,573, red lights 1,480, non-renewal of registration 101 and others 23,872.
