warning about contracts

I want to warn everyone out there about clauses in contracts that say they employee has to pay back a return flight , immigration fees, and any housing provided, if the contract is not completed (because the employee is let go, or the employee resigns).  It is a form of golden handcuffs, but it can also be seen as debt you take on for the duration of your contract.  Also be aware that the employer does not have to issue you an exit permit (for vacation, for attending funerals, or for some other reason) if this is not written into your contract.   You can be trapped in Qatar without a leg to stand on otherwise.  Be careful what you sign.

WT: And yet you have managed to spend over two decades in this country as a "slave". Now that your bank account back home is brimming to the full, you have decided to say "enough is enough." It was the glitter of the Riyal that kept you going on and on, as is with others.

Why don't you warn people in general? Don't come to Qatar if you don't want to live the next couple of years as a de facto slave! Qatar practices "Modern Slavery" according to the UN and the new Immigration law doesn't change this at all. Stay away from this country!
