Two expatriate drug smugglers sentenced to 10 years in prison
In another exhibition of Qatar’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug dealers and drug consumption, a Doha Criminal Court sentenced two expatriates to 10 years in prison and ordered them to pay a fine of QR200,000.
A third person, who was found to have consumed the illicit drug, was jailed for a year and fined QR10,000, reported Gulf Times.
The case came to light when an Asian maid told the representative of her employer that she had been given a sealed bag to pass on to someone who would contact her in Qatar. A closer scrutiny revealed around 3kg of marijuana hidden inside the bag.
The defendant offered to pay the employers representative QR15,000 for the bag’s delivery and he co-ordinated with the police to catch the culprits. One of them was caught he led the law officials to the others.
Another day, another great win in the fight against illicit drugs. Well done.
