Qatar Living recently drove around 50 kilometres north of Qatar to visit the largest sheep and livestock farm in the GCC - Baladna Farms.

A few bloggers have been talking about their farm-to-table concept and the unique experience they provide so we really had to check them out ourselves. Here's what we learnt about Baladna Farm.

Baladna Farm is a 100% Qatari farm offering a diverse range of experiences for its visitors.

Located in a quiet area of Al Khor, you will find a farm filled with thousands of the famous Awassi sheep and goats. Even better, the farm is open to the public.

The farm offers a chance for visitors to bring their family and friends to see the plenty of goats and baby sheep.

A cornerstone value of the farm is freshness and nutrition of the food produced. Animals are milked everyday, the environment is clean and, believe it or not, has no animal odour on the grounds.

With over 400 employees the farm is well maintained, animals are well cared for, and the farm is clean.

Baladna Farms offer a dining experience, masjids, and majlises for men and women, and delightful farms filled with cute animals.

Almost all this is true, and the place worth visiting, but:

1. It does smell like a farm! When you have thousands of animals in one place, I don't see how you could avoid the smell.

So, if your nose is delicate, it's not the right place for you.

2. Meat is good, but seriously expensive. 100 QR / kg meat with bones. 160 QR / kg meat from back leg.

3. You must try the Sweet Cheese Rolls!!!

Again, not cheap (80 QR / box), but really really delicious.

Good playground for kids as well in the farm.

Overall, good place to with the kids, in which you can show them that the meat doesn't grow in the supermarket isle, but hold on to your wallet with both hands.
