Ohio police shoot dead Emirati student who fled scene of accident
In a shocking incident, an Emirati student was shot dead by a policeman in Ohio, USA, on Sunday.
The National reported that 26-year-old Saif Nasser Mubarak Ali Alameri was killed by a gunshot to the head in Hudson.
It is understood that Alameri, who had caused a car crash, ran away from the vehicle. The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Hudson Police Department launched a search effort and eventually found him in the nearby woods.
It was further reported that a scuffle ensued between the police officer and Alameri, resulting in the fatal gunshot.
“A police officer caught up to Alameri, a struggle ensued and the officer opened fire, police reported,” wrote The Akron Beacon Journal.
Police unsuccessfully performed first aid on Alameri at the scene. The officer was treated for minor injuries and is now on paid leave pending the results of the investigation.
Alameri was studying law on a scholarship in America, and had completed his first year at Case Western Reserve University.
Police said the car Alameri was driving swiped another vehicle and his car flipped over, according to witnesses.
UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said it was closely observing the investigation into the death.
A hashtag for Alameri was trending on Twitter as UAE social media users spread the news of his passing away.
