Pakistani villagers attack convoy of Qatari men hunting houbara bustards
A group of Pakistani villagers brandishing guns and knives attacked the convoy of a Qatari hunting party, which included a member of the royal family, which was on an expedition to hunt the rare houbara bustard bird.
The group, hunting for the rare bird whose meat is a popular delicacy, was unhurt.
However, three security guards were wounded during the attack in Musakhel, in Pakistan's southwestern province of Baluchistan, reported the Times of India.
“A case has been registered against 25 people,” said District deputy commissioner Muhammad Yasar.
Police said the villagers turned violent after they were prevented from meeting the visiting party to seek donations to build a mosque.
“Qatari hunters apply and pay for government hunting permits and donate to local communities and wildlife conservation. Unfortunately, there’ve been attacks led by armed groups,” said an official closely associated with the sport of falcon hunting.
The bustard is considered a vulnerable species, with a global population between 50,000 and 100,000. Last year, Pakistan's Supreme Court lifted a ban on hunting the bird after the government argued it hurt relations with Gulf states whose wealthy hunters traditionally travel to Pakistan to pursue the endangered species with falcons.
In December, 2015, about 100 gunmen kidnapped at least 26 Qataris from a desert hunting camp in Iraq near the Saudi border. A member of Qatar's ruling family was freed in April 2016, along with an accompanying Pakistani man.
To whom would you like to talk when you get up ..... to a human or a bird ? .......... .......... ........
:) first of all it is not the first time, most recently similar incident happened in Bhakkar, district of Punjab, when villagers started protesting against these hunters & govt over damage to their crop. (but it was not quoted by indian media -Probably for the sake of Modi terms with Nawaz Govt -also leading Provincial party. but since current story belongs to their main object Balochistan only so it has to be on international media anyway:) ).
The Rage against such hunters in public is not limited to villagers just, every responsible & aware citizen criticize govt & these hunters for many valid reasons. Excuse me for hurting any of your sentiments, due to QL terms i cannot unleash the truths.
Well i believe its something similar like when the authorities block streets in corniche in Qatar for some VIP to pass through for hours....so I believe the villigers were not allowed to pass though by the guards men and not the "authorities themself" and hence the rage...
HUNTERS HUNTED !
There are so many other things which are rare and we ignore that very conveniently for example empathy ..... ! We just oppose everything which is of not our own liking ............ ......... !
You guys are misleading yourself by not reading the news with open eyes ......... The reason is '' anger '' not ANYTHING ELSE ...... and the anger for not understanding at what time we should ask permission to meet a dignitary ........
Yes, a very unfortunate incident. But then it was the job of the authorities to protect the guests from these gangsters. I just hope appropriate action has been taken against them.
Police said the villagers turned violent after they were prevented from meeting the visiting party to seek donations to build a mosque.
Totally wrong on the villagers part. They are your guests. Just talk in a polite manner. We need to respect the visitors to our door ......... Very unfortunate incident .......
Mufti: Ha! Ha! There are no "rights" for humans and you are talking about animals!
Why to go hunting a rare specie. Are there no animal rights activists in Pakistan?
What are these unspoken truths ? The government makes good money from these visitors
If Wildlife committees are built to issue the expensive permissions to raise their funds, Vulnerable species conservation is a big fraud.
As for as villagers reaction is concern their reaction is genuine for many other reasons & unspoken truths.
