A 62-year-old expatriate in Qatar has been diagnosed with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), commonly known as coronavirus, thus becoming the first such case to be reported in the country this year.

“Results of lab tests showed that the 62-year-old resident suffers from the virus,” the ministry said in a statement, according to Gulf Daily News Online.

The patient, who has been kept in isolation, first came in for a check-up with symptoms of fever and abdominal pain, reported Arabian Business.

The patient was said to be suffering from comorbidities, including chronic illnesses, and did not report traveling outside the country or having contact with any symptomatic people in recent weeks. He had a fever, night sweats, and abdominal pain before testing positive for the virus, revealed Cidrap.umn.edu.

“The resident has been quarantined to receive the appropriate medical care,” AA.com reported, citing a statement from the health ministry.

Over the years, a vast majority of MERS-CoV cases have been reported in Saudi Arabia. This is Qatar’s first positive identification this year.

The latest case raises Qatar’s total number of infected in the country, since it was first diagnosed in 2012, to 19. Seven of those patients have died.

So far, Saudi Arabia has reported the most cases since 2012 — 1,580, including 659 deaths.

If they retest the man there would be nothing now, there are sometimes mistakes in taking samples & the processes ......... I am of the view that there would not be even a single case here ...................
