Health officials have stepped up their inspections of establishments selling foodstuff during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Yesterday, inspectors of the health section of Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality conducted checks on the local market and seized around 150kg of fish that was unfit for human consumption. The veterinarians concerned then destroyed the haul, reported Gulf Times.

The inspectors have also been working overtime to visit commercial complexes to check the temperature of refrigerators and ways they were storing food, reported The Peninsula.

The recent campaign is aimed at increasing health safety levels among these institutions due to high demand for food during Ramadan and to ensure they are complying with health regulations and technical specifications.

The campaign comes in the framework of ‘Your Health is our Goal’ campaign, conducted by the municipality and focused on food outlets specially supermarkets.
