It was only a few days back when a horrific car accident took place at the Khalifa Al Attiyah intersection, when an over-speeding car broke the rails and fell down 10M to the February 22 Street below.

The car fell on top of another vehicle, leading to the death of a four-year-old girl and injury to her parents as well as her six-year-old brother. Investigation into the matter by relevant Qatari authorities is ongoing.

The case has also been transferred to Public Prosecution, reported The Peninsula.

“The reason behind the accident was jumping the red signal, after which it was hit by another car. Due to the collision, the car broke the barrier and fell down from the bridge,” said a source at the General Directorate of Traffic.

The source said that everything related to the accident, including strength of barrier and why it could not withstand the impact, will be thoroughly investigated in collaboration with Ashghal.

If there were any issues with the quality of the barrier, then the concerned authority would also be invited to the Prosecution.

“In my opinion, the barrier was strong but due to the speed of the collision, the car fell down after breaking it. Also we should know that all traffic accidents which cause damage of more than QR10,000 are transferred directly to the Public Prosecution,” the source said.

This is what I fear of driving here in Doha, the unnecessary hurriedness and stress people are adding to other drivers/themselves is completely detrimental to the name of Qatar. This poor child was buried and the family is now broken because of such stupid decisions. More speed cameras with lower limit, more severe fine implications with loss of license and manpower supplemented amongst busier intersections will prevent such incidents. I say incident because this was a choice to ignore the red light and enter the possibility of killing someone, versus wait two more minutes and get home safely with no one harmed. Shame on you driver...

May peace and God be with the victim's family throughout this tragic event.

SLOW DOWN!!!

zuma: i said nothing about citizens; i said regardless of nationality; I've done it and others have done it to me when i was younger and stupid; when you call the police, they will just note your name and number in case you are needed for in person testimony...there's no need to make it a matter of expat or citizen; its only about a road user informing the traffic authorities about another driver's dangerous behaviour on the road...

usually, the innocent pay the price for the guilty; in this case, a little girl with her life and a young family broken for life; i urge all motorists to confront and report any overly rash and reckless drivers we see on the roads; do not be intimidated by cars or nationality; the police will handle it and they don't care what car or what nationality...may allah protect us all ameen...
