Qatar Airways to transport aid to Kerala free of charge, Ooredoo, QRCS also step up
The southern Indian state of Kerala is going through an unprecedented tragedy of rain and flash floods.
It was just yesterday that HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani announced a mammoth $5m aid package to the beleaguered state.
While Qatar Living contributor Greeker penned down his experiences of living on ground zero, Qatar Airways had announced that it was rescheduling its Kochi-bound flights to Kerala’s capital — Thiruvananthapuram.
Qatar Airways Cargo has now stepped up their game and announced that it would deliver relief aid to Kerala on an urgent basis, reported Gulf Times.
The cargo carrier will use its planes to deliver relief goods to flood-stricken districts via the passenger service from Doha to Trivandrum.
“We’ve received earnest requests from the Indian community residing in Qatar seeking support to transport relief aid to Southern Kerala, where many of their families and relatives are affected by the worst flood in a century,” Qatar Airways Cargo’s Chief Officer Guillaume Halleux was quoted as saying by The Peninsula.
“Given the devastating situation, we’ve rapidly activated a humanitarian operation to offer free transportation of relief goods from Doha to Trivandrum on our daily passenger flight. We’re expecting to airlift more than 50 tonnes of much-needed relief goods from the operation, which will commence from August 21 to 29,” he added.

The centre will continue to communicate with #Alathad_ata National Assembly in India to gather the necessary information about the damage and needs,” said the QRCS in a tweet.
