NBA heroes give 40 children at Qatar Foundation a basketball class to remember
Yesterday was a lucky day for students of some of the educational institutions at the Qatar Foundation as they got to learn basketball from two of the hottest stars in the NBA league.
Houston Rockets player Carmelo Anthony, Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson, Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton and seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady took a masterclass for students of the institutions, reported Gulf Times.
Anthony, a triple Olympic gold medalist, and four-time NBA All-Star Thompson also played a brief friendly game with Qatar’s national team.
The American stars are in Qatar for five days, at the invitation of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), to see how the country is getting ready for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The American quartet held a Masterclass for about 40 schoolchildren at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University Student Center at QF’s Education City.
They also met a host of dignitaries including QF Vice-Chairperson and CEO HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, SC Managing Director Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, SC Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi and QF’s CEO Office Executive Director Omran Al Kuwari, among others, reported The Peninsula.
“It was great to learn that basketball has such a huge following in Qatar. We’ve been impressed with our tour of QF and Education City. The students were great, and it was amazing to see young people from all over the world pursuing their dreams here,” Anthony was quoted as saying by Qatar Tribune.
