A team of Qatari climbers scale Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe

An expedition team, consisting of climbers from Qatar and Kuwait, has successfully scaled the highest peak in Europe.

The climbers succeeded in reaching the peak of Mount Elbrus in Southern Russia on August 28, reported The Peninsula.

Qatar Museums (QM) Chairperson HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani tweeted out her wishes to the team on their excellent achievement.

“Congratulations to our Qatari youth who climbed Mount Elbrus in #Russia as part of #QatarRussia2018 Year of Culture,” she tweeted.

It took the climbers six days to get acclimatised to the weather conditions. Only after that did they attempt to scale the 5,642M tall cliff.

The climb was part of the group’s mission to promote the importance of mental health as well as celebrate the Qatar-Russia Year of Culture 2018.

Aisha Al Naama, one of the team members, spoke about it as one of the most challenging experiences in her life.

“Made it to the summit of Mt Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe. What an experience! It was one of the most challenging experiences in my life, mentally, physically, and emotionally. I’m extremely honoured and proud to carry my country’s flag and I hope I’m able to inspire some of you,” she posted on Instagram.

“Today was one of the toughest/successful days in my entire life. I tested myself in so many levels, mentally and physically. I woke up at 12 a.m. to get ready for the summit that lasted until today noon. Loved every moment of this trip, the group work and support,” a post by another member Dana Al Mannai said.

Day 7: I DID IT. Summit day to Mt. Elbrus 5642m. Today was one of the toughest/successful days in my entire life. I tested myself in so many levels, mentally and physically. I woke up at 12 a.m. to get ready for the summit that lasted until today noon. Never in my life I thought a sunrise, a hug in a middle of a hike or a frozen-nose rub by a friend would make me cry like a baby. These photos might not show what we’ve been through for the last few days, yet it shows the success we have accomplished. Loved every moment of this trip, the group work and support.
