Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba, who recently won two gold medals at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, continues to sizzle.

The Qatari runner set the tracks ablaze at the International Association of Athletics Federations’ (IAAF) Continental Cup in Ostrava, the Czech Republic, yesterday.

He equalled a 37-year-old world record, set by legendary American 400M hurdler Edwin Moses, en route to the gold medal in 47.37sec, reported Qatar Tribune.

Samba, racing as part of Team Asia-Pacific, dominated the men’s race on the first day of the IAAF Continental Cup. He was over a second faster than second-placed Jamaica’s Annsert Whyte (48.46) and Norway’s Karsten Warholm (48.56).

Warholm started the race strongly and appeared to hold a slim lead over Samba until 250M, but once Samba started his move, nobody had a response. The Qatari’s lead kept growing, and the only remaining doubt was who would finish in second and third, according to Gulf Times.

“This is a great season for me. I’m so happy. I don’t want the season to end,” said the delighted runner.

Samba has had a remarkable season where he broke 48sec in every final he ran. It includes victories in six IAAF Diamond League races.

The run in Ostrava was Samba’s ninth sub-48-second time of the season, equalling the record tally achieved by Danny Harris in 1990 and Kevin Young in 1992.
