Can New Graduates Obtain Work Visas....and other questions
Hello everyone,
I am a speech-language therapy graduate student living in the United States, a U.S. citizen and I am interested in moving to Qatar once I graduate. I have a few questions and I would truly appreciate it if anyone could guide me. I would like to apply for a work visa and move to Qatar after I graduate, but I haven't been able to find much information on eligibility requirements and whether it is even possible for new graduates to obtain work visas. I contacted Qatar's Supreme Council of Health and I was emailed a guideline for evaluation. This is what the guideline indicates for new graduates with no work experience in the field of speech-language pathology: completion of mandatory training program or internship program in health care institution within state of Qatar for nationals and residents. My concern is that as an overseas candidate (not a Qatar resident), I would not qualify for a work visa in order to move to Qatar and begin the supervised training. Am I correct or am I over thinking this? If it is possible to a get a work visa in my situation, what is my first step? Should I come there on a visitor visa and find an employer? Should I contact employers while I'm in the U.S.? How long does it typically take to get a work visa?
I would greatly appreciate any information you could provide. Thank you so much.

Hi,
Lots of Questions, lets take them one by one:
1. I would like to apply for a work visa and move to Qatar after I graduate - Yes, this is possible and should be easier since you are US national.
2. I would not qualify for a work visa in order to move to Qatar and begin the supervised training - With respect to specific filed you are opting for, you have to go by what SCHL told you. That is you need to complete training course here in Qatar through an institution accredited by SCHL. Why dont you contact Hospitals like Sidra, HMC, QISH and speak with them and ask them what are requirements or where you can obtain training in Qatar.
3. Your first step should be to contact more hospitals and Speech therapy training centers in Qatar. If you dont get anything concrete on requirements, then you should visit Qatar and speak to SCHL directly. You can also submit job applications while you are here in Qatar.
4. Getting work visa depends upon your visa sponsor. If sponsor gives you a visa, you can enter. However, for making Residence permit, you need to submit your qualifications for the trade you are being employed for. This can be tricky if you dont have proper qualifications as needed in Qatar. In case, you are not able to provide proper qualifications, then your visa will be undervalued and you will be able to stay in Qatar but wont be able to work in specific trade you want to be employed in.
Hence, it is advisable to research properly and intensively before thinking about getting employed in Qatar as speech therapy pathologist.
