Thank you spatel1 for your appreciation.

Thank you pioneerpec for your very kind words.

I wish to add a bit of more information that slipped my mind while writing my earlier post and possibly this may also be helpful to the readers at QL.

I did go over to the Sharia Court as per the advice of the police department to file a case against this Sudanese crook. But there I just happened to meet a person from Somalia. I believe this person was God-sent. He was present there as he had filed a case against someone. He told me that it would take around 6 to 8 months for my case to get decided should I file one. He added that on each date set for the hearing I need to be present at the court whether the other party attends or not. Otherwise, the case will be dropped if I was absent on any date set for the hearing. This took me as a total surprise. No wonder the Sudanese crook enjoyed mocking me and laughing on my face! He knew how the ball moved. The Somali gentleman went on to advise me to try to find some middle route to solve the issue.

It was simply not possible for me to leave office and attend the hearing each time. Hiring a lawyer will add to the cost and then lawyers play their own games to make money. One lawyer present at the court who was looking for business, did approach me and "assured" he would get the verdict from the court latest by the second hearing. I did not swallow the "sweet talks" of the lawyer. It was then I took the assistance of my Sudani friend to get this matter resolved.

Myra Baccay: I guess you are in a mess.

I faced a near similar situation several years back when I bought a car from a rent-a-car company owned by a Sudanese national. The deal was finalized late in the evening at his office. I paid him the cash and took the official printed receipt from him. Since, the Traffic police office was closed by then, the car was supposed to be transferred the next morning. It was not transferred. The person kept on promising me "tomorrow and tomorrow" which never seem to end. On my investigations, I found out the car was bought through a bank loan and rent-a-car company didn't have the documents. Th Sudani didn't have the money to pay back the loan.

I kept running after him for several months. Finally, I took the matter to the police at the Central Police Station. The police called him several times and he just gave them stories. After several calls, the police gave up and asked me to take the matter to court. During this time, the Sudani kept mocking me telling me, "I have been here 30 years now and I know all the rules and laws. You cannot do anything!"

I took the support of a Sudani friend. He went with me to that person and managed to convince him to return the money to me in installments. The Sudani rent-a-car company owner agreed. He gave me 3 post-dated cheques covering my total amount. I grabbed the cheques as I anticipated something taking place in the future.

The first cheque bounced. It was what I was expecting. I took a letter from the bank with regards to the cheque having bounced. The bank called the Sudani and told him they had issued a letter with regards to the bounced cheque. The Sudani owner knew very well I would go over to the police and have action taken against him. I was told the police would block his account in the system till the matter got resolved.

He called me immediately. He paid me the same evening..

In your case, I do not think the authorities can do much to help you out. This is because it is a matter of transfer of ownership of a property. You should not drive the car as the Istamara and I guess the insurance also has expired. All you can do is to keep pursuing the matter through regular visits or calls and pray for the best.

Seek advice from some other people who may be knowing better.
