Sale of subsidized sheep for Eid Al Adha to start from Sunday
With Eid Al Adha a little more than a week away, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in conjunction with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) and Widam Food Company, has unveiled the subsidized sheep price initiative.
The move complements the joint national initiative to promote subsidized prices of sheep meat.

The sale of sheep will begin on Sunday (3rd of Dhu Al-Hijjah 1440 Hijri, corresponding to August 4), and will continue until Tuesday (12th of Dhu Al-Hijjah 1440 Hijri, corresponding to August 13).
An agreement was reached with Widam Food Company to ensure a supply of 9,000 sheep of Arab origin (local and Syrian).
The ministry set the price of local sheep (Arab Awassi) weighing 35 kg and above at QR1,000 (2,500 heads) and Syrian sheep weighing 40 kg and above at QR950 (6,500 heads).
Widam Food Company will facilitate the sale of the sheep at several locations across the country including the central market and other Widam slaughterhouses in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Al Mazrouah, Umm Salal, Al Sheehaniya, and Al Wakra. Home delivery services will also be available.
The sheep will be sold to each Qatari citizen who presents a valid ID card, according to the terms specified under the initiative.
The buyer must be at least 20-years-old (born in 1999 or later) and must have the right to purchase only one sheep, to ensure the availability of sheep for the targeted segment.
The ministry forbids the sale of underweight sheep. Sheep that do not meet the required specifications and slaughter conditions, or have incompatible weights and sizes as agreed upon with the ministry will not be sold.
The ministry said it is also ensuring the availability of suitable barns.
MoCI also stressed that it will intensify its inspection campaigns from the first day of sale, on August 4, 2019, until Tuesday, August 13 August 2019 to make sure the highlighted terms and conditions are being followed.
