Awqaf Ministry reminds Muslims of fasting on the days of Tasua and Ashurah
Qatar's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has urged Muslims to fast on the days of Tasua, the 9th day and Ashurah, the 10th day of the Islamic month of Muharram, 1441, in pursuance of the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In a statement, the ministry has reminded Muslims of the importance of fasting on these days of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.

The 9th of Muharram will be marked on September 8, while the 10th of Muharram will fall on September 9 in Qatar.
The statement further says, according to the Holy Companion Ibn 'Abbas (Radi-Allahu 'anhu), when the Holy Prophet, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, migrated to Madinah, found that the Jews of Madinah used to fast on the 10th day of Muharram.
They said that it was the day on which the Holy Prophet Musa (Moses), 'alayhi salam, and his followers crossed the Red Sea miraculously and the Pharaoh was drowned in its waters.
On hearing this from the Jews, the Holy Prophet, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, said: "We are more closely related to Musa, 'alayhi salam, than you," and directed the Muslims to fast on the day of Ashurah.
If one decides to fast on this day, it is considered much better to fast the 9th of Muharram also.
