Doha beautification project to utilize the artistic creativity of local talents
Qatar has been on a journey to transform itself in a way that it incorporates elements of modernity while preserving its fascinating cultural heritage.
This is mirrored in the country's stunning architectural landscape which intertwines futuristic, bold designs with hints of traditional features that enhance Qatar's unique identity.
In a bid to further accentuate the country's heritage in its aesthetic outlook, four government entities have come together under a partnership which will see local artists do wonders to revitalize some key areas in Doha.
The project, Development of Central Doha Area, is led by the Technical Committee for Artworks, comprising representatives from the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Qatar Museums (QM), Ministry of Culture and Sports (MoCS), and Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
The Committee yesterday held an “Artworks for Beautification of Doha” conference to present its artistic beautification plan.
Accordingly, the committee has opened up a unique opportunity for local artists (citizens and residents), above the age of 21 to participate in the city-wide beautification drive.
Local talents are encouraged to get involved in the project by submitting their proposals. The project will not only allow the artists to leave their mark on the city but also enhance community involvement in the nation's transformational journey.
The locations identified for this project are Grand Hamad Street, Al Qubaib Mosque Plaza, Al Meena Street Intersection among others.
The committee will select groups of creative workers that will be positioned at different locations in central Doha such as the Hotels Park, Abdullah bin Thani Street Gate, Al Meena Street Intersection, Al Qubaib Mosque Plaza, and Grand Hamad Street, according to The Peninsula.
At the conference, QM's acting CEO Ahmed al-Namlah, said, "We value this trend of co-operation to spread culture and art across the community and we are excited about this project. We at QM have tremendous experience and a legacy of general art projects as it is one of our focus areas."
He added that this new project "will result in the transformation of the Doha Central area and Doha city in general into a stunning and eye-catching painting," reported Gulf Times.
