Returning to Qatar during Corona COVID-19 restrictions

Hi. Two months ago I went outside Qatar to visit my home country for holidays but then got stuck as the borders closed down.

I want to return at the earliest but been told a permission letter is needed for re-entry. My questions are:

1-Who needs to arrange this permission letter? My employer?

2-What formalities I need to fulfill in my country of departure? Any COVID-19 test etc?

3-Quarantine time of 14 days in Qatar. Who gets to decide which facility/ hotel I will have to stay in?

Appreciate your well informed feedback. And if possible then please do share useful links.

Thanks

Thanks 'arkb'. Yes. As per law, an employee can't be terminated during the annual holidays. However, my employer played it smart and waited till I started working from home from my home country so technically I was not on vacation anymore.

They have recently told me arrangement of permission is for only 'essential' employees and I am clearly not one of them. :) Perhaps I will have to wait till flights are open as per normal probably sometime in June end or July mid!

I will be talking to the landlord very soon about a possible reduction in rent and if not that then evacuating the flat.

Your employer can't terminate you while you're outside the country under normal circumstances. It will be difficult to come back. You will have to wait. Speak to your landlord to sort out your apartment. Seems you're in a very tough situation. Good luck!

Ah! Ha! Molten Metal is back!!!

It is surprising that no HR men can arrange for your return. According to Molten's "philosophy" they must be "Gals"!

Hey, I suggest you get in touch with the embassy of your country in Qatar and/or Qatar embassy in your country.

They should be able to provide you will the necessary info.

Good luck!

Thanks Molten. The 'slight' problem is that I have been terminated last week while working from home in my home country. I am guessing my employers will be in no desparate need to arrange my return. Of course I am in a rush as I need to settle so many things and windup my apartment etc. Also to search for any possible jobs out there!
