The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has received special recognition for its Workers’ Welfare program from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).

Compliance and Audits Senior Manager from the SC’s Workers' Welfare Department, Mohammed Fahad Al Hajri received the award during the book launch ceremony of Qatar Achievements on Vocational Safety.

His Excellency the Minister of Municipality and Environment, Abdulla bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie presented the award to the SC official.

Al Hajri said, “I am honored to receive this award on behalf of my colleagues at the SC. The health, safety, and protection of our workforce has always been at the forefront of our work since we won the hosting rights and we appreciate this important recognition.”

Developed under the patronage of MME, the 2020 Qatar Achievements on Vocational Safety book analyzes and highlights important achievements of various Qatari companies and institutions in the field of occupational safety.

It also draws attention to Qatar’s efforts to ensure the safety and protection of workers and celebrates best practices in the country’s business sector.

The book covers the SC’s milestones to date, top-line statistics across the program, coupled with information on some key initiatives seeking to enhance workers' wellbeing, including comprehensive annual health screenings, centralized electronic medical records, occupational health and safety training, and the innovative cooling wear ‘StayQool’.

Executive Director of the Workers' Welfare Department, Mahmoud Qutub, said, “As Qatar 2022 draws closer, our workers’ health and safety will remain a top priority. We want to ensure this tournament acts as a catalyst for significant positive and long-term impacts on the well-being of workers in Qatar and beyond. This will be our legacy.”

And the truth is? "Migrant workers on a construction project for a FIFA World Cup stadium in Qatar were not paid for up to seven months, according to human rights organization Amnesty International.

Around 100 workers of Qatari subcontractor, Qatar Meta Coats (QMC), are still waiting to be paid in full, Amnesty said Thursday. Some workers had received partial payment after the rights group reported the case to Qatar's authorities and world football's governing body FIFA.

The laborers, from countries including Ghana, Kenya, Nepal and the Philippines, were contracted by the Qatari company for facade work on the Al-Bayt stadium."
