UK court issues judgement in favor of Qatar Airways against Al Arabiya news channel
Qatar Airways (QA) has welcomed a judgment issued by the English High Court in favor of the airline against the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya news channel.
The judgment rejects Al Arabiya's application to contest the jurisdiction of the English court to hear the claims in a lawsuit filed by Qatar’s national flag carrier against Al Arabiya.
The lawsuit pertains to a “video simulation published in August 2017 which purported to explain the effect of the illegal blockade on Qatar and Qatar Airways,” the airline said in a press statement.
The UK court published the 130-page judgment after evaluating extensive evidence in a three-day court hearing.

QA Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, commented, “Qatar Airways is determined to protect its business from spurious and politically motivated attacks such as this, and we have confidence that the English High Court will deliver justice in this dispute.”
The airline welcomes the judgment and considers it is an important step forward in its quest for justice, he said.
"The Al Arabiya video included an animation which depicted a Qatar Airways aircraft being intercepted and potentially being shot down by a fighter jet in the context of the illegal blockade,” Al Baker described.
The video was widely viewed in the UK and across the world, causing a storm of media outrage at the time, he added.
“The UK's Daily Mail commented that it constituted "a chilling warning that [Saudi Arabia] could blast a Qatari passenger plane out of the sky" and which the UK's Independent newspaper described as "beyond provocative,” Al Baker mentioned.
The video was “false and misleading” and was created with ill intentions to prevent customers from flying with QA, the airline claims, adding that this came as a “part of a series of politically motivated anti-Qatar publications by the news channel.”
Despite of the Al Arabiya arguments, the judge ruled that QA had established it has “real prospects of showing at trial that the video was false and/or conveyed a false impression and that it was published maliciously” to harm the airline.
