Qatar Museums announces host of activities for February
Qatar Museums (QM) has launched several events and activities catering to a wide array of interests and artistic passions, to be hosted across its cultural institutions throughout February.
Members of the community can look forward to a range of culturally enriching programmes designed to promote creativity and take art beyond four walls.
This comes while observing all precautionary measures against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
QM has implemented health and safety protocols that require visitors to present a “green” health status on the Ehteraz virus-tracing app and to wear a face mask for the duration of their visit.
Fire Station: Artist in Residence
Teachers Training, Grey Times, Artists in Residence
The AIR Exhibition sheds light on the meaning of exploring creativity during uncertain times. Artists expressed the artworks and projects through oil paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, video and photographic works, reflecting the concept of creativity in times of isolation, as well as adapting to exceptional changes in life and creativity.
QM Learning and Outreach department invites visual arts teachers to attend training workshops delivered by the exhibition artists, where they review the created artworks, inspired by modern techniques.
English speakers: 2 and 3 February from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Studio 101, 1st floor, Fire Station
Arabic speakers: 7 and 8 February from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm at Studio 101, 1st floor, Fire Station

Museum of Islamic Art (MIA)
Sculpting 101
Date and Time: 3, 10, 17, 24 February from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
An educational tour for children aged three to five to explore clay, glass and metal. Children will produce clay sculptures and a still-life painting inspired by MIA’s beautiful collection of vases and bottles; master the art of clay firing, glass blowing and metal making in the most fun and unexpected ways.

Ottoman Design
Date and Time: 17 February from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
On this course, students aged eight to 11 will gain basic knowledge of Ottoman islimi design, painting, gilding, and brushwork techniques.
As well as completing an illumination painting, by the end of the course, each student will have a small portfolio of painting and drawing studies to take home.

Fantastic Family Photograms
Date and Time: 20 February from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Eight families are invited to find out all about photograms - using special paper and nature to develop a photograph for you and your family to treasure.
This workshop is held in celebration of the Sheikh Saoud exhibition - Sheikh Saoud was a passionate collector of photography and had many early photogram images in his collection.

Curator-led tours of A Falcon's Eye
Date and Time: 23 February from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join exhibition curator Dr. Mounia Abudaya for a tour of MIA's special exhibition, A Falcon's Eye: Tribute to Sheikh Saoud Al Thani.
Sheikh Saoud was responsible for acquiring the foundation collections for many of the QM museums but as well as being an avid collector, he was also an environmentalist dedicated to saving rare species. Learn more about this amazing man and his passion for art and knowledge in this special tour.

Majlis Book Club
Date and Time: 24 February from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Adults are invited to read and discuss a wide variety of books on topics covering Islamic art history, museums and collections, and regional artistic themes.
A new text is chosen for each meeting, inspiring readers to exchange ideas and thoughts in the creative group and explore the world of Islamic art from a new perspective.

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art
Art Lessons at Mathaf with Ismael Azzam
Date and Time: Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm
Adults are invited to join artist Ismael Azzam for a new season of Art Lessons at Mathaf and learn techniques in portraiture drawing using pencil, charcoal and paint.

Story Time for Families Mathaf
Date and Time: Every third Saturday of the month from 10:00 am-11:30 am
A monthly activity for children four to nine years old and their families. You and your children can enjoy bilingual stories read in both English and Arabic.
Explore the connections between art and storytelling by visiting Mathaf’s galleries, reading together, and taking part in hands-on learning activities.

National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ)
Virtual Field Trip for Students
Date and Time: Daily from Sunday to Wednesday, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm via Zoom
Students can continue to experience NMoQ from the comfort of their classroom. These virtual guided tours are designed to be an engaging and culturally stimulating adventure.
Schools can choose one of the following themes: The Formation of Qatar and Qatar’s Natural Environments, the Archeology of Qatar, the People of Qatar or the Modern History of Qatar.
Virtual tours are delivered in Arabic, English, French, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Turkish and German.
The #PassGoQatar Monopoly Challenge runs from January 27 to February 17, 2021, invites all residents and citizens to visit destinations that feature on the QM’s Monopoly board game.
