NMoQ becomes first museum in the Middle East to be awarded Green Key Certification for Sustainability
Through artifacts, oral histories, music, films, and artworks, the Museum, which opened in March 2019, offers expression to the country's culture and legacy. The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) has been awarded Green Key certification in recognition of its ongoing efforts to implement sustainable best practices, making it the first museum in Qatar and the Middle East to achieve this certification.
The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) is dedicated to preserving and celebrating Qatar's heritage. Green Key is a leading standard of excellence in the tourism industry for environmental responsibility and long-term operations. This renowned eco-label signifies a commitment by businesses to adhere to the Foundation for Environmental Education's high criteria for tourism enterprises.
The museum engages with its present and inspires the country's ambitions for the future. Since its opening in 2019, the NMoQ has received numerous sustainability awards, including being the first national museum in the world to receive both a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold, a 4 Star GSAS (Global Sustainability Assessment System) sustainability rating, as well as recognition in the International Beautiful Buildings Green Apple Awards 2022 organized by the Green Organization, an international non-profit environment group.
