Track for moving debris save 62,000 truck trips
If you have been to Wast Bay Doha recently, you might have noticed the innovative track system that Qatar Rail installed above the traffic line. Its purpose is to move debris and rubble from the construction site of two metro stations in the area.
This is an example of good city planning from Qatar Rail as their construction projects in the area have not affected the usual operations and movements in the city.
If Qatar Rail decided to use trucks instead of building this 2.44 km track system, the operation would require up to 62,000 truck trips, making lives of people commuting through Majlis Al Taawoun Street miserable.
Qatar Rail installed this system to ensure that this part of the city could operate as usual with minimal distruption.
The track system will be around for another six months until excavation operations are completed for the two metro stations on the Red Line North, in the heart of Doha's business district.
More than 400,000 cubic metres of material is expected to be excavated during the whole process, with a quarter reused as back-fill in the construction of the stations, the remainder needs to be taken from the sites, Al Kowsi told Doha News.
The material is loaded onto the conveyor belt and transported above ground to a depot opposite Al Bidda Park.
Once excavation is complete by the end of 2015, the track system will be dismantled and used for other Qatar Rail-related projects.
That's a great idea.
I was wondering all what time what it will be!
Thought it is a rail for a light train!
Anyway good job!
I guessed it as for mobilizing and demobilizing reusable sources between metro stations.
Thanks for the article.
haha, I thought it was a roller coaster rail that will tour you all around westbay.. don't you think that is also a good idea? hahaha.. nah, just kidding.
Good for long term projects
Excellent planning ! well done
More than the cost the corniche area is too busy and conjusted, it would have been great difficulty for the trucks to carryout the excavated material through this area even during night time also....
sure, it must be economical as well for the contractors, otherwise all contractors would close there shops within short time, they are not doing any charity work here, even for the conveyer cost also pays by client.
Great! Engineering Value works.
What would be the cost saving conveyer against the conventional Truck method?
First, i thought it was a conveyor for concrete aggregates directing to batching site, that proved me wrong.. great planning QRails! two thumbs up!!
