Education in Qatar

The Qatar National Vision 2030 sees Qatar making a decisive move from a petrochemical based economy towards a knowledge based one and education is at the heart of this process. This has led to a rapid growth in educational establishments from nurseries, primary and secondary schools, specialised curriculum and special needs schools through to post secondary education including technical and community colleges and universities.

There is a wide range of preschool options available with varying timings and age requirements, but with a growing demand and often limited spaces early registration is essential.

The curricula available in Qatar represents the diverse population but space is at a premium in most international schools due to population increase, so again it is advisable to register early, with as many schools as possible to secure a place for your child at the beginning of the academic year in September.

The Supreme Education Council (SEC) has a policy of inclusive integrated education with many schools catering for special needs students with additional facilities and staff. There are however, a number of schools available for special needs students across the spectrum. There are also specialised curriculum schools at secondary level and beyond with concentrated emphasis on various fields such sporting, and military leadership.

Post secondary education in Qatar has various options, so, as well as the traditional university route offered by Qatar University or the various university campuses at Qatar Foundation’s Education City, there are a number of technical and community colleges as well as training programmes providing alternatives to pursuing a degree course, with options as varied as The Doha Film Institute, Qatar Finance and Business Academy, Qatar Aeronautical College and Tajmeel Qatar International Beauty Academy.

Education is Qatar is being defined by the needs of its diverse and growing population, so regardless of age, language, national curricular, academic or non traditional pursuits there is potential to cater for the varying needs of most families educational needs.
