Doha - Saudi - Bahrain Road trip
A Short travelogue for people, who may intent to take a Doha – Bahrain – Doha Road trip in future!!
Total Distance clocked: 1065 Kms
Doha (Mansoura) to Bahrain (Manama): 485 Kms
Car: Nissan Altima 2.5S
Drive time: 6 hours – it may increase if there is a delay at check post particularly at Saudi – Bahrain Causeway check post
Route: Doha – Al Ahasa (bypass) – Abqaiq - Al Khobar (bypass) – Bahrain
Must Have: GPS with Qatar / Saudi and Bahrain map loaded, I used Nokia E71 mobile GPS loaded with Nokia Maps, it was very helpful
One must arrange for Saudi Transit Visa, rest all such as Bahrain Visa / Car Insurance can be obtained at the check post en route.
Road condition: The entire stretch was fine, expect for a few detours inside Saudi. Saudi Roads has very few signboards; it will be really tough without a GPS. While going from Qatar, just keep looking for Dammam road, as you close inn, you will find signboards for Bahrain. Avoid traveling at Night times in the Saudi stretch as you will face on-coming vehicles headlight and the entire stretch is a barren desert on both sides with very few stop-points. When it’s windy, you will literally feel the vehicle drift at speeds over 120 Kms particularly in Saloon cars; advisable to go by a big 4by4 – please avoid any smaller saloon / hatch on this stretch.

Agent detail for processing Saudi Visa: Al Asayel Co. (Tel.: 44805606, Mobile: 5680914) - Near Sana/VW Roundabout. Next to Mercedes Showroom. Driving B-Ring Road passing Oasis Signal, continue until Sana Roundabout, make U-turn.

Is it safe going at night ???
this is nice ang informative.. any idea for doha - dubai road trip?
Iam planning to go to Bahrain with my family. i have one kid who s just 1 year old. is it safe to take him by road.. iam using a saloon. i will keep the speed only maximum 100 KM.
If you are in a transit visa and you are travelling by a non-saudi vehicle, you don't need to follow the dress code. For When i went in Feb 2011 - my wife was wearing a skirt and even we got out in 2/3 places at saudi - Like mall and a friend's house - there was no issue. But please check if there is any latest rule change.
..ALL ladies shall wear avaya..there will be areas where even the head shall be covered..otherwise, covering the hair, aside from the avaya, would be enough...
Dear Mr. Ganesan,Could you please advice on the dress code for ladies through Saudi territory, as I am planning to go to Bahrain with family and being a non-muslim.Thanks in advance for your answer.Regards,Chennai Sridhar55539075
you fly so slow FA?
Did Doha to Makkah non Stop, 1220 Km, Left Al-sadd at around 7 am, and reached Makkah at around 2 Am the same night... :)
good info....thanks.
This is almost like lonely planet.
Thanks for the information.

Its my experience and i took the travel between Feb 10th and Feb 12th 2011 this year!
Where did you find a similar travelogue? Please lemme know!I wanna check it out....
I read the same travelogue on another site...
just curious if both are written by same person :)
Khana is something wrong here?
did you write up this???
if not, can you please provide the source for this travelogue...
info
Nope!!!
Then there won't be any crowd at Saudi - Bahrain causeway!! For many in Saudi, weekends are at Bahrain for your information...
So based on your need - you can take either a 3 day or 7 day visa.
looks really good - we are moving to Qatar in August - in KSA atm and last November we did a mammoth road trip from Abha to Ras Al Khamiah was a fabulous 4000km experience - the kids genuinely LOVED it!!! And would definitely consider this trip when we come to Qatar!
xxx
..have heard from someone that short stays are no longer allowed in bahrain..that's before the recent problems they are now having..only allowed that time are a week's stay or longer..i guess, this is because of the presumed notion that a weekend trip is only for an alcohol dip, most of the times...
hope others will keep sharing information and updates on travel in GCC.
Thanks for your effort buddy..
Thanks pal, this thread has put some plans for the summer in my mind.
Saudi transit visa will be issued only if you are eligible for on-arrival Bahrain visa. The agent processing the Saudi visa will give you a confirmation on this!!
By the way, if in your RP - it's stated as engineer - then no worries, you will get visa on arrival....
Thanks for the write, up, and for putting in the effort for the greater good. Can the Mods create a 'Sticky' somewhere, as this this the info that people will always need to refer to time and time again.
Thanks a lot for the detailed information. You have covered almost all aspects of the road journey. One quick question - I am eligible for visa on arrival in all gulf countries as my profession on RP is Engineer. But I am wondering if this holds good for a road journey too. Can I drive without arranging a visa in advance ?
Great time to post this. You forgot, helmet and small fire arms for self defence
