Will the hassle be worth it for me?

I have a choice of a 4 hour stop or a 22 hour stopover in Doha when I travel from UK to India with my wife and two kids in May. I have in past taken stops in Dubai, AbuDhabi and enjoyed the sightseeing there. Trouble is, I cant find much info on Doha apart from some on this website here. The hotels I am looking at are all around US160 or more, so I thought of asking the help of all you good people here.

Is there a lot to see (with kids) in Doha? Any details of hotels with a cheaper budget? (names, telephone numbers, etc) Is Doha city centre much far from the airport, cos my fkight lands at 11.45pm, and the outbound flight will be at 10pm, next evening. And oh yes, the day I will be spending in Doha is a Friday, does that mean a lot of closures? I would like to visit the Museum of Islamic Arts, would that be open on a Friday?

Please reply, and many, many thanks for your co-operation...

I am so grateful for all the replies that I received, so thank you guys, but could someone please help me with names and telephone numbers of some hotels, apart from the big ones, ie Sheraton, Four Seasons, etc. Something decent, not too pricey and possibly nearer to City Centre? Thanks once again

Nothing to see here more than Dubai. Come here only if you want to see how Dubai used to look like around 20 years ago.

First of all will need to pay QR 100 per adult for a visa (approx 36 usd) and if you are in transit may have difficulties with the airline confirming you outbound flights.

Anywhere in Doha is less than a 20 usd taxi ride from the airport.

Unfortunately most touristy things dont open till late afternoon/ early evening. The city tour mentioned above should be available though, then go for awalk along the Corniche and spend a couple of hours in the Souq.

You wont be awe inspired, but it will beat the hell out of staying in the airport for 12 hours
