This is exciting news indeed. I just read in a local sports magazine that Qatar is bidding for the 2020 Olympics. They have quoted the Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim and QOC Secretary General Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

From the site...

http://www.dohastadiumplusqatar.com/doha-launches-bid-2020-olympics/

The Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is also the president of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), on Friday officially launched Doha’s bid for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Following confirmation received from International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge regarding flexibility on the dates for the 2020 Games, HH Sheikh Tamim, said, “In light of the decision of President Rogge and the IOC Executive Board, I’m delighted to formally announceDoha’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in ’20. It’s fitting that the dream of hosting the Games should come to theMiddle Eastat this time; our bid can inspire peace and is a priority for our youthful region. Sport and Olympism together instil self-discipline, teamwork, drive and help teach all of us the means of achieving our personal goals. To simply have a chance to enter the bidding process is a step closer to realising something very special for our nation, our region and the Olympic Movement.”

This is exciting news indeed. I hope Qatar wins the bid. GO QATAR!

poolpan show us your proof of these allegations.  Otherwise what you write insults Qatar and is libel and slander.

Unfortuantely the Olympics committee is not plaged by bribery and corruption, therefore Qatar may find it difficult to buy them. Anyway no harm in compiling a bid as money is not really an object.

Still jealous and bitter that UK did not get world cup so the English complain about Qatar.  Why not complain about Russia which is the reason UK did not get the WC?  That is because Russia is too big and scary for UK that has to pick on little countries to feel better about itself.  Imperialism in another form.

2012 -what on earth would i be jealous of? That they cannot organise a p**s up in a brewery? They were given 2022 and the first thing they did to prove to the world that they could handle such an event was muck it up. I knew people who had specifically flown in to see the final, paid flights, hotel etc and were not even allowed into the stadium, frankly it was embarrasing

the bid will get rejected due to:1. health & safety concerns during the extreme weather (for both athletes & crowds) - crowds won't be in the stadium & hotels all the time right?2. lack of infrastructure.3. lack of planning and experience hosting big events.4. lack of tourism and facilities for large crowds.well done.......spotlight will now be back on the corrupt 2022 bid and how they won.

didn't you check the bin hammam's news... that he gave bribe to some officials to get their votes for the seat of president of FIFA?yup this is their country, but am not gonna support, this tiny land owner's are doing any thing in the world to get attention of the world.they went for 2022 cup, tried asian games, asian cup, helped and attacked libya, their only tv channel is the root of all the problems in the gulf, osama bin ladin's every video was released by their tv channel.now they are bidding for olympics..really the rest of world is too much stupid, or perhaps they want to drain out their whole money first..

2012 - you are exactly right, they have enough money for the bribes, the world has already seen the greatness of their money!!!

its exactly according to the situation..i am totally against the this olympics in qatar... but now lets see how much bribe they will give for this one!!some time passing / driving thru corniche or other areas, they can't withstand with Eid, weekends, morning times, afternoons, at the time of their celebrations, when they win some club match. then what actually they gonna do with the world cup.. when more people will be here.  mean more traffic jams, so the players will go thru choppers. but what the spectators gonna do? spend night there.. so that in the morning they watch the match.. now regarding this.. if qatar wins the olympics bid also. then surely it means that the people of west are the worst and the most corrupt in the world.
