One of the best places if you like "off the beaten track" has to be Yemen. Is such an amazing country where you get to experience real Arab hospitality, with the people being warm, genuine and so giving. Is so easy to be invited into someone's home to experience their diverse culture, and if you're lucky get invited to a wedding. The Old City in Sana'a is amazing as well as the mountainous terrain. In 2 weeks I ran into only 20 tourists, and even though the country is backwards, that's what makes it so special. Can't wait to go back!!
Another amazing place is Damascus. The Syrians are soooooo friendly and kind. I could easily live there, with the gorgeous cafes, narrow alleyways, and stunning culture. The only upsetting thing is seeing the Gulf Arabs driving down the historical lane ways in their 4x4's...grrrrr
Oh and Petra is amazing, the Rose City is worth a visit!!
One more...lol...Abel Simbel in Aswan is stunning...and Islamic Cairo...once again the people are amazing...
