@St. George.

You talk about West - Did you know that so called Western advancements were copied from the discoveries of Arabs/Musilms. The Father of "Astronomy/Chemistry" Jabir Ibn Haiyan was a Muslim, He based all his science from the Quran. On the other hand “Westerners” copied all his inventions and in the science school books which you alls study he was named Gabor. Now this is the western Double Standards
.

Well Moon sighting is a simple science, astronomy was present even during our days of Prophet Mohammed(P.b.u.h), But he ordered that we sight the moon using naked eye as Islam is a simple religion and the true religion. This also has a scientific backing and is proven that the moon cannot be sighted through the world on the same day, it is normal to have a difference of 1, 2 or even 3 days. It is locale specific.

Also, did you know the benefits of using the lunar calendar, read below:

My friend, READ QURAN – you will be enlightened !!!

“It can be said that the lunar count of time is more precise as opposed to the solar. This is evident in that Allah has made the count of time easy for pretty much every person in that one can observe the moon and according to its' visible shape in its' particular stage can tell even if only approximately which time of the month it is. So one knows that after the "disappearance" of the moon to our naked eye, a new month is due and its' beginning is known by the crescent shape, and similar goes for the end of the month. The middle of the month is known by its' full shape and so on. In this way a month can only have 29 or 30 days and never more, since Allah has fixed the stages of the moon.

The solar calendar on the other hand, besides the fact that its' origin is connected with false religious beliefs, is not easy for all and the majority of people because we cannot observe the position of the Earth on its' revolution around the Sun with our naked eye and are forced to rely on the word of those whose primarily job is to count the time in this way. Furthermore, it is less then precise in comparison to the lunar measure of time, which is evident in that the solar month can have 28, 30 and 31 days, and 29 days in leap years. Needless to say, the daylight saving time, which is also necessary to keep up with the count. This addition/subtraction of days/hours becomes necessary to make up for the shortcoming and inaccuracy of the solar calendar, and this mess doesn't come up as a surprise since Allah did not create the Sun for the purpose of time measure to begin with. But the man wants to make difficult that which Allah has made easy”
