Congratulations on trying Firefox. I am no Microsoft basher but IE simply is not the best standards-compliant browser around. Don't get me started on the security vulnerabilities.
Try this test:
A group called Web Standards maintain a web-page to test the standards compliance of browsers. You can reach the link at:
There are two links. The link on the left is the actual test. The browser is supposed to display a face on clicking it. The link on the right shows how the page should appear.
Some pages in general appear better on IE because of sloppy programmers. They don't develop the site to be standards-compliant.
Enjoy.
PS. You cannot uninstall IE - it will need unusual tech skills or software and may break Windows. Just delete the desktop icon and continue using FF. Some sites (like CBQ) will require IE.
