This is true in Christianity as well.  We are taught that relying on ourselves is what leads to trouble.  I also agree that there is a lot of goodness in the world.

I know what you mean about people being grateful for what they have.  That is not prevalent in our world.  We always seem to want more.  In fact that is one of my struggles - I call it one of my signature sins.
