The credit crisis is largely the result of greed by investment bankers increasing the money supply by packaging and securitizing debt. The credit risk of the debt was not accurately gauged or quantified and it eventually imploded. The smart investment banks like Goldman Sachs managed to sell on their securitized portfolios to less smart investment banks like Bear Stearns.
