i agree on the statement that the discharge were from excavated buidling foundations... however, it being discharged at the center of corniche is puzzling to some..

i think they are simply using an existing drainage tapping point instead of building a new one.

just imagine the traffic havoc to be created by digging the roads in order to lay those drainage pipe that will lead elsewhere away from corniche..

we all know how tight Doha roads were... so, i guess there is not much option but to use the existing drainages lines.

folks, i suggest you get near the filtering/sand trap boxes of this ground water pumping stations... and try to smell the water ... they do stink! why did it stink??
That is beacuse of the common practice of "SOAK AWAYS"
these are pits dug on the ground where surface water discharges are drained... eventually finding its way and mixing with the ground water. Of course, there may be soiled water also drained thru this way... so, the concentration of pollutants eventually causes stinky shallow ground water..

well, what do you expect from shallow ground water?? they are not potable at all and not really that clean. So even if they were clean to the sight, they do still smell stinky.

for those who say that the building are floating on ground water... are not properly informed. the ground formations comprises of lime stone that are porous that hold water in them. think about our muscles with veins passing all throughout carrying blood... it goes the same with limestones. there are various ways to make a building stable... tall buildings requires piles drilled deeper so as to stand on more solid stratum...

ask the geological and structural engineers if you want to know more...
