220v has a point..it depends on your lifestyle. I know someone who's been here for 5 years or so but doesn't own a car (he can afford to have one).Company car takes him to and from work and hires taxi on weekends to go shopping or visiting some friends although he admits nowadays getting a cab means standing under the heat of the sun for 30mins to an hour or more if you are lucky.
For me,it's a necessity to have a car here in Doha.Just drive responsibly and always..Be careful.
