QAWS has discussed having a dog show many times over the years but we have come across many problems that have prohibited us having a show to date.

The most important ones are:

1. A venue - few places would allow us to gather with anything upwards of 100 dogs. The area would have to be huge to allow enough space for all the dogs to gather before and during the event but also provide water supply, an air-conditioned area etc.

2. There will be many un-neutered animals as following local religion, neutering is considered haram. This could lead to uncontrollable fighting amongst dogs, especially if there are bitches on heat.

3. There are very few places to socialise a dog in Qatar so most dogs will have never been around so many other dogs before. Having so many un-socialised dogs in one area may cause stress and again, fighting unless a large enough venue could be found.

4. Many dogs are kept outside and have not had adequate training for them to be kept under control at such a busy event full of distractions. With the fashion for large breeds, we were worried that people would bring along their "pet" which has never left the garden or been on a lead and have no control over them which would cause absolute chaos!

We are working out the best way of having a pet show as a fund-raiser for QAWS. There would however, be strict rules for entry, such as all male dogs over 6 months would need to be neutered etc. Would you be interested in helping us organise such an event for later in the year?
