It is great that most of the respondents have compared Indians with Western counterparts. Yes, a firm will have to pay less for an Indian(with an Indian passport) employee with the same skills as a western employee.
Interestingly, I have seen more corporates hiring Indians from western countries- here the salaries paid are the same as that paid to any other western national. So, why not get more Arabs from western countries- they speak the local language and have the benefit of western education?
I partly agree with bea_7 that managers who are Indians prefer employes who are Indians. But I have seen Arabs prefering to hire Indians.
The reason is simple- an Indian generally is good at what he does, will rarely be late for work(parties/get-togethers are usually over the weekend), will stay later than his Arab and western counterparts and his expectation from his employer is much less than that of an Arab or a westerner- so he complaints less.
As an employer, this is great- work gets done without the constant absenteeism, bickering and complaints and if it is at a lower cost, that is icing on the cake.
