You csn go alone - esp if you have a little experience of driving on the sand. Most of the way to the inland sea from the Seaview resort is a well compacted, fairly level wide tract of land. Should be visible on Google Earth. When you get to the little roundabout in front of the resort go straight over, and head 45 degrees to the right and you will find it - then just head south.

There are ALWAYS Qataris flying around who seem to take great pleasure in pulling incompetant foriegners out of the sand when they get stuck... its usually quicker to wait for a Qatari than it is to dig yourself out.

remember the basic rules

1) Do not stop on flat ground esp at the base of a dune as the sand is very soft there. Stop on a slope so gravity can help you get going.
2) If you see somebody else who is stuck, dont park next to them - follow point 1 above, otherwise there will be 2 cars for the Qatari guys to pull out.
3) Dont slow down as you approach a dune - you need momentum.
4) Keep momentum at all costs when driving through soft sand - dont be tempted to change into 3rd gear just because you are at the top of the revs in 2nd - you will get bogged down!
5) Dont reverse into the sea by accident (not a good memory that one)
